Q9. Why choose a hybrid amplifier ?
Ans :
Tube amplifier have very good sound quality and depth/air of sound stage (of course I mean a well designed amplifier, not those transistorized sounding tube amp) . Transistor amplifier have a very tight and well controlled bass response. So a well designed hybrid amplifier should have both the advantages of tube amp and transistor amp, that is very sweet sounding, good air, good sound stage, warm and rich , with a well defined punchy and rich bass.
If your listening interest is for classical music, vocal, opera, slow jazz , slow pop, real instruments and easy listening, you should choose an all tube amplifier. On the other hands, if you like rock music, heavy metal, fast pop , dance music then you should choose transistor amplifier. But in case you want to listen to everything, then a well designed hybrid amplifier is the only way to go. Another good way to use a hybrid amplifier is to drive the low bass section of a bi-wire speaker, and drive the mid and high section with a single-ended tube amp.
