FAQ answers
Q8. What is a hybrid amplifier ?
Ans :
Hybrid amplifier means an amplifier which built with both tubes and transistors mixed together in the signal path. Some audio equipments will use transistors to build the power supply circuit and the amplification circuit is only tubes, that is not really a hybrid amplifier.
A standard hybrid circuit is using vacuum tube as the front end voltage amplification stage, and the output driver stage will use transistors. It is because transistor can provide a very high current in order to control the woofer of speaker effectively. A well designed hybrid amplifier should have totally warm and sweet tube sound quality but with the good bass control as a transistor amplifier.
