FAQ answers

Q3. Will the tubes last long enough in my amplifier ?

Ans :

Usually the tube's life time is from 2,000 hrs to over 10,000 hrs, but that doesn't means the tube will be dead after that length of operations.   It just means the tubes will be off the original specification after using for that hours. Usually the tubes will just become lower gain and the high frequency response will be degraded. The actual operation hours of a tube usually at least 5 to 10 times longer than the MTBF (mean time between failure). Some of the antique amplifiers or radios didn't need to change any of the tubes even after 30-40 years of continuous operation.

The life time of a tube in a gear is also depend on how hard the manufacturer pushing the tubes, some manufacturer will try to bring up the detail and dynamics by driving the tube with a very high voltage which is close to or exceed its maximum rating, then the tube will be dead much faster than a design with 60-70% of the maximum tube ratings.
